Before I bought the FoG tokens, I used colored puff balls to mark the unit status. These are a big step up from that. I like the colors and I haven't had any problem differentiating one token from another. I haven't tried the colored pencil trick to make the words stand out, but I will. I bought a second set after I received and played with the first just so I know I'll never run out. I also ordered a custom token of an arrow with the word "impact" on it to mark BGs that declare charges in the impact phase of the game.

The tokens are semi transparent and tend to fade into green gaming mats and are hard to read most of the time. I would recommend making them fully opaque. Over all they are not bad but it often takes a second glance to determine unit status.

This was an excellent purchase. The counters serve exactly the right need and the size and colour variety make them at once unobtrusive on the field but at the same time immediately obvious as to what they indicate in game terms. The counters are also good resilient design.
My only complaint is that the engraving on the transparent plastic makes it hard to see and this means that you tend to use the colour of the counter to identify status, which given my above observation is simple enough once you know the colour system.
